The Ashlawn Group has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army’s Armament, Research and Engineering Center to produce and demonstrate the performance of 120 fuel cells of Ashlawn’s proprietary fuel cell, the PEMERY(TM) P-100, for use as post-launch power source for the Army’s Multi-Option Fuze Artillery (MOFA). “This effort applies cutting edge fuel cell technology to the munitions marketplace — a non-traditional market for fuel cells. At the current full- rate annual production of roughly 100,000 units for the M782 Multi-Option Fuze Artillery, full-rate production of P-100 would double the current fuel cell production output in the United States of America, having enormous implications for creating economies of scale in U.S. fuel cell production. Ashlawn’s fuel cell technology has the potential to elevate flight times and on-board post-launch power performance to a whole new level, not seen anywhere in the world today. There is a lot of room for growth for this new technology,” according to Ashlawn’s President, Norma Byron. Ashlawn is currently working with power source users to expand use of its patented fuel cell technology to both military and civilian applications. Website: http://www.ashlawngroup.com

Medis Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ:MDTL) announced that its refuelable fuel cell Power Packs, developed to power an Itronix Corporation tablet (GoBook(TM)) under a contract with General Dynamics with funding from the U.S. Air Force, performed successfully in meeting the specified test criteria. The Power Pack produces eight watts at 5.0 volts output and when depleted of its fuel can be refueled by a fuel cartridge in a matter of seconds. “This fuel cell power pack, which we developed for use with the Itronix GoBook(TM) funded by the Air Force, demonstrates the breadth of our technology to deliver much greater power – more than six times the watts – than our disposable power pack for cell phones and other portable devices,” said Robert K. Lifton, Chairman and CEO of Medis Technologies. “It also demonstrates our ability to produce a refuelable fuel cell using a refueling cartridge as compared with our disposable product.

Newspapers from both sides of the country are reporting increased economic activity and interest resulting from the wind energy building boom that is underway. AWEA is predicting the biggest year ever in terms of new wind power capacity installed up to 2,500 MW which means that wind turbine towers are now popping up in communities across the U.S. The Great Falls, Mont., Tribune reports that three towers are being erected a day in Montana’s first utility-scale wind power project near Judith Gap. The rotors are expected to arrive soon, and are expected to draw a tourist crowd. When construction is complete on the first phase, 90 GE Energy 1.5-MW wind turbines will start delivering power to Northwestern Utility, a Montana utility. Invenergy Wind, the project developer, estimates that over 10 full-time operations and maintenance personnel will be needed. The project is expected to pay $30 million in property tax over its 40-year life. The paper reports that local restaurants, motels, and stores have been enjoying increased business since construction started earlier in the summer. The Oswego, N.Y., Palladium Times reports increased business at the Port of Oswego as workers and parts arrive for the Maple Ridge Wind Farm being built […]
