Honda announced the pricing of its redesigned 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid, which goes on sale October 19, will be 21,850, or $23,350 when equipped with an optional satellite linked navigation system. The car achieves an EPA estimated city/highway fuel economy of 50/50 miles per gallon “The all-new 2006 model delivers the ultimate in efficient technology and heightened safety, with the highest fuel economy of any Civic at a time when fuel economy matters more than ever,” said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, automobile sales. “It is the perfect example of how to balance the needs of our customers and the environment, while offering an unbeatable value.” The latest generation of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology allows the Civic to achieve an EPA estimated city/highway fuel economy of 50/50 miles per gallon* while achieving Advanced-Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) standards in all 50 states. Equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) as standard equipment for 2006, Civic Hybrid fuel economy increases by 6 percent in the city and 4 percent on the highway as compared to the 2005 Civic Hybrid with CVT and AT-PZEV certification. The Civic Hybrid can now deactivate all four of its cylinders and operate using […]

The Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), an independent, market-oriented foundation for research, development, consulting and knowledge-transfer, announced it has sold its molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) technology package to Danbury, Connecticut-based FuelCell Energy, Inc., a world leader in the development and manufacture of high temperature fuel cells for clean electric power generation. ECN has undertaken many years of specialized research in the field of MCFC and has developed an extensive technology package covering inventions at system design level, stack development and at the cell level. ECN’s decision to terminate its activities in MCFC and sell its technology package was among others based on the decision of its closely involved industrial partners to focus on their core activities as a result of decreasing research and development (R&D) budgets. ECN management decided to concentrate on fuel processing, solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell technology R&D. ECN selected FuelCellEnergy to purchase the package of MCFC technology because of FuelCellEnergy’s leadership position in the commercialization of MCFC for commercial and industrial customers worldwide. MCFC are designed to operate at higher temperatures than phosphoric acid or proton exchange membrane fuel cells and can reform hydrogen internally in […]
