SolarWorld AG tripled its profits for the first nine months of 2005, generating a profit after tax of 33.6 Euro compared to 10.3 million EUR last year. Earnings before tax (EBT) rose to 53.2 million EUR (previous year: 16.0) while earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) increased to 57.4 million EUR (previous year: 19.5) and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) went up to 71.2 million EUR (previous year: 31.7). All parts of the group contributed to the increased profit in spite of increased silicon prices. Sales revenues rose to 247.1 million EUR (previous year: 144.2). Group profits in the third quarter of 2005 increased by 185 per cent over the same quarter last year to 15.1 million EUR (previous year: 5.3) and EBT improved to 24.3 million EUR (previous year: 8.5). In a quarter-on-quarter comparison group sales increased by 107 per cent to 110.5 million EUR (previous year: 53.4). From the beginning of the year the number of employees increased by 125 to 741 persons. Toyota released its fifth annual Environmental Report for North America, which describes the company’s continued improvements in its environmental performance for the fiscal year 2005. Toyota’s Five-Year-Environmental Action Plan lays out goals in five areas: * Design and Development: Toyota announced two new hybrid vehicles for 2006 — the Lexus GS 450h and the Toyota Camry Hybrid. * Manufacturing: Toyota has been working aggressively to meet energy reduction targets that play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its operations. Toyota’s North American manufacturing operations achieved a 15% energy consumption reduction target per unit of production two years ahead of schedule. Eight Toyota facilities achieved zero landfill (defined as a 95% or greater reduction in landfill waste from 1999 levels). * Sales and Distribution: Cumulative sales of hybrids, the Toyota Prius, Highlander Hybrid and Lexus RX 400h in North America stand at well over 200,000 units. Further, US sales and distribution achieved the goal to reduce energy usage by 15% ahead of schedule, and were recognized with a Flex Your Power Energy Efficiency Award. SunOpta Inc. (NASDAQ:STKL; TSX:SOY) has signed a three year exclusive contract to supply aseptic packaged organic soymilk for a major global retailer. This contract will initially generate approximately $20 million in annual revenue with production expected to commence in mid December. Allan Routh, President of the SunOpta Grains and Foods Group, said, “SunOpta’s vertically integrated soymilk model is integrated from soy bean sourcing through to packaged products, ensuring SunOpta’s control of quality and organic certification and providing direct traceability from the farm gate to the retail shelf. In order to fulfill this contract, soy beans will be sourced and initially processed at SunOpta’s facilities in Hope, Minnesota and Moorhead, Minnesota. The processed soy beans will then be delivered to SunOpta’s ingredient plants in Alexandria, Minnesota and Afton, Wyoming to be converted into liquid concentrated soy base.
