WorldWater to Debut New Mobile Solar Unit

WorldWater & Power Corp. (OTCBB:WWAT.OB) will debut their new MobileMaxPure(tm) solar power unit at the 28th Annual National Hurricane Conference to be held in Orlando, Florida, April 10-14. The MobilMaxPure(tm) critical response unit can be towed into a disaster area by pickup truck or SUV and immediately provide emergency responders and victims with the essential services of power generation, water purification and satellite communications. With the flip of a switch, 15 solar panels automatically unfold to create a 12×18 foot photovoltaic array that generates electricity. A bank of high-capacity batteries power the panel deployment and store electricity for emergency night operations. Quentin Kelly, Chairman of WorldWater & Power, noted, “MobileMax(tm) has already proven its value in post-Katrina Waveland, Mississippi – where it is turning contaminated water into clean drinking water for 5,000 to 10,000 residents every day. The new MobileMaxPure is our second-generation device, incorporating everything required by emergency responders. During many disasters, reliable communications is one of the major problems faced in coordinating relief efforts. MobileMaxPure(tm) has solved that problem with on-board satellite-based, wireless voice and data telecommunications, and the power to operate it under the most severe field conditions. MobileMaxPure(tm) can rapidly go wherever needed and make the […]

UL Certifies Capstone MicroTurbines

Capstone Turbine’s 30- and 65-kilowatt renewable energy systems are the first generators to be classified by Underwriters Laboratories to the UL2200 standards for Stationary Engine Generators, under the new category of Engine Generators Fueled by Biogas or Raw Natural Gas. These products are additionally Listed to UL1741, the standard for Inverters, Converters, Controllers and Interconnection System Equipment for Use With Distributed Energy Resources. UL1741, which references IEEE 1547 and IEEE 1547.1, is being accepted as the US national utility grid interconnection standard. In 2001, Capstone MicroTurbine systems were the first non-photovoltaic generator to be listed to the UL1741 interconnection safety and operations standard. “This certification, President Bush’s new initiative for grid-interconnected renewable resources and our newly released CR65 biogas-fueled energy system will be yet another major step for us and for the nation’s future of clean, renewable energy,” said Capstone Turbine Corporation CEO John R. Tucker. “I believe this new certification will encourage operators of landfills, oilfields and wastewater treatment plants to reduce their flaring of these gases into the atmosphere. Instead, those operators can now burn these ‘waste’ gases in renewable energy generating Capstone MicroTurbines, the first flare-gas-fueled generators that currently meet these UL standards.” The new UL generator […]

Northern Power Sign OEM Agreement

Northern Power, a subsidiary of Distributed Energy Systems Corp. (Nasdaq: DESC), has signed an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) agreement with Elliott Energy Systems (Stuart, FL). The agreement gives Northern Power exclusive worldwide rights to incorporate Elliott technologies in the development of microturbine-based products for the oil and gas industry. Northern Power has also signed a distributor agreement with Elliott to sell and service its existing microturbine-based systems. Under the terms of the OEM agreement, Northern Power and Elliott will develop microturbine-based solutions offering higher reliability, lower overall cost and a smaller system footprint than currently available alternatives. Initial sales efforts will focus on the Gulf of Mexico region, building on existing sales to Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), the world’s ninth largest integrated oil company, which currently operates approximately 185 platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Northern Power also plans to market the product to the global oil and gas industry. “Most microturbine solutions evolved from combined heat and power (CHP) systems used in urban locations, a far different customer base from remote offshore platforms,” stated Michael Brennan, vice president of sales for Northern Power. “As oil and gas executives assess the value proposition of microturbines, they see a need for solutions […]

California Governor's Plan Divides Oil Firms

By Marc Lifsher Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s pledge to fight global warming has opened a rift as wide as the Atlantic Ocean between two groups of oil companies in California. The governor’s high-profile initiative, which sets firm targets to reduce the greenhouse gas pollution that contributes to global warming, is supported by BP, the London-based oil giant whose Arco gasoline is the state’s biggest seller, and Royal Dutch Shell of the Hague, Netherlands, owner of the Shell brand. U.S. companies such as Chevron Corp. of San Ramon, Calif., and Exxon Mobil Corp. of Irving, Texas, oppose the directive. In private, the Americans, who generally bristle at state intervention in the market, snidely refer to their transatlantic cousins as “the Europeans,” who have adapted to a culture back home of stiff government regulation, expensive social welfare networks and heavy taxes. The greenhouse gas clash, which is just beginning to build momentum, marks a rare dispute among the large petroleum companies that give millions of dollars a year in political contributions. The row threatens to weaken the industry’s legendary unity in lobbying on air quality rules, gasoline taxes and highway funding. “Typically the oil companies have banded together,” said Bill Magavern, a legislative […]
