Xantrex Receives US $2.5M Solar Inverter Order

Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) has received an order from ProSol Financiera S.A. valued at approximately US $2.5 million. The order is for Xantrex’s grid tie commercial inverters for a project to build a solar power plant in Spain. “We are delighted to be chosen to supply our commercial solar inverters for ProSol’s project,” said Mossadiq S. Umedaly, Xantrex’s Chairman. “ProSol is an important new European customer that we have added this year, positioning us for growth in this market.” ProSol Financiera S.A. is financing the development of this 8 megawatt (MW) solar power plant located in Moclinego, Spain. The project is expected to be completed by March 2007. Ballard Introduces Next Generation Fuel Cell Stack

Ballard Power Systems (TSX:BLD.TO – News)(NASDAQ:BLDP) has successfully completed alpha trials and plans for accelerated beta trials and managed commercial rollout of its air-cooled fuel cell, the Mark 1020 ACS. The Mark 1020 ACS, a product primarily focused on the backup power market, provides a range of power outputs from one to five kilowatts, and leverages Ballard’s air-cooled fuel cell technology expertise to deliver several significant improvements over earlier product prototypes. Key elements of this next generation design include: – Simplified, lower cost design: the Mark 1020 ACS uses 33% fewer parts than the previous generation air-cooled product, incorporates new, lower cost materials, and reduces precious metal catalyst content significantly. – Self-humidification: the unit operates without the need for external humidifiers, thereby reducing both part count and cost. – Ambient operating regime: by dropping operating pressure of the fuel cell stack, Ballard has removed the need for an air compressor, again reducing system cost and improving reliability. U.S. Representatives Introduce Legislation to Curb Global Warming

U.S. Representatives Tom Udall, D-N.M., and Tom Petri, R-WI have introduced the “Keep America Competitive Global Warming Policy Act of 2006,” in an effort to put the United States on the road toward curbing global warming. Udall and Petri say that it is time for America to take steps to address global warming. “Our bill is modest, certain and efficient,” the Representatives said. “It begins to slow the growth of greenhouse gases, but minimizes the negative impacts to the U.S. economy.” In fact, they say, the legislation will spur innovation and keep America as a leader in global technology. “Having a policy to slow the growth of greenhouse gas emissions with the goal of first stabilizing and then ultimately reducing emissions would be a major and positive step forward.” The bill sets a prospective baseline for greenhouse gas allowances. This would base the number of allowances at the outset of the program on the level of emissions three years following the enactment of the legislation. By being prospective, it gives the regulated industries the ability to plan ahead and not prematurely retire capital stock.
