Dallas-based White Energy Holding Company, LLC, has acquired a 100 million gallon ethanol plant from The Scoular Company. The plant, located in Plainview, Texas, will be a “near twin” of White Energy’s other ethanol facility under construction in Hereford, Texas. The Plainview facility is fully permitted and construction is underway, with completion targeted for early 2008. White Energy also owns an operating 45-MGPY plant in Kansas, which, when combined with output of the two Texas plants, will bring White Energy’s total production capacity to 245 MGPY (gallons per year). White Energy also formed a long-term strategic relationship with Scoular. Scoular will provide grain procurement and distillers grain marketing services for selected White Energy plants and comprehensive risk management services for the company. “This acquisition fits well into our expansion plans, and, with the addition of Scoular’s agricultural transportation and distribution expertise, White Energy has significantly elevated its competitive position in the renewable fuels market,” said Kevin D. SunOpta Inc. (Nasdaq:STKL; TSX:SOY) announced results for the three and nine month periods ended September 30, 2006. The Company achieved record revenues for the third quarter, realizing its 36th consecutive quarter of increased revenue growth versus the same quarter in the previous year. Revenues increased by 26.5% to US$145,463,000 as compared to US$114,950,000 in Q3 2005. The revenue growth represents consolidated internal growth of 15.8% and growth via acquisitions of 10.7%. For the nine months ended September 30, 2006 revenues increased 42.9% to US$434,520,000 as compared to US$304,031,000 in the prior year. This increase reflects internal growth of 17.7% plus growth via acquisitions of 25.2%. Net earnings in the quarter were US$1,524,000 or $0.03 per diluted common share as compared to $2,088,000 or $0.04 per diluted common share in the prior year including the effects of the losses on sunflower. Operating earnings for the nine months ended September 30, 2006 have increased 43.0% to $18,350,000, including the impact of the losses on sunflower, as compared to $12,835,000 in the prior year. Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (NYSE: STP), a leading Chinese manufacturer of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules, signed a collaborative research agreement with the Centre of Excellence for Advanced Silicon Photovoltaics and Photonics at the University of New South Wales, Australia (UNSW). Suntech will contribute US$1.2 million to the university as part of the agreement. Said Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Suntech’s Chairman and CEO, “Through our unique collaboration, UNSW students and staff are involved in the complete technology development process, and we are able to transfer new solar technologies to commercial production in a relatively short time.” Dr. Shi, who received his PhD degree from UNSW in 1992, is a specialist in crystalline silicon solar cell technology and holds 10 patents in the field. Suntech’s contribution will fund the research and development of technology that increases the conversion efficiency of solar cells and decreases solar energy’s cost per watt. Suntech and UNSW have already co-developed an advanced screen-printing technology based on the use of semiconductor fingers that enables the production of solar cells with up to 18% solar conversion efficiency.
