To help businesses meet their carbon reduction targets, Carbon Trust is launching a business directory that lists pre-qualified suppliers to make it easy to get energy efficiency and renewable energy equipment.
The "Green Business Directory" lists suppliers that specialize in lighting, automatic metering and targeting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), building controls, compressed air, solar photovoltaics (PV), biomass, uninterruptible power supplies, hand dryers and voltage management devices.
Each company has been assessed and audited through Carbon Trust’s Accredited Supplier program.
Energy efficiency technologies top the list of green technology investments by businesses, but only 51% of those Carbon Trust surveyed are confident about manufacturer energy efficiency claims, and 58% say they would benefit from an independent database of suppliers, says Hugh Jones, Managing Director of Business Advice at Carbon Trust.
"Our survey showed that return on investment is the most important factor for organizations considering investing in energy efficiency and low carbon technologies – but accurate business cases require accurate information from suppliers," says Jones. "The Green Business Directory will make it easy for organizations to find independently accredited suppliers who have demonstrated their success in delivering sustainable, low carbon solutions in what is a crowded and fast-growing market."
The Carbon Trust standard certifies that organizations have measured, managed and reduced carbon emissions across their own operations, and that they are committed to ongoing reductions themselves.
In the last year alone, Carbon Trust worked with more than 6,000 companies and organizations – helping them deliver about $840 million in cost savings related to gas, electricity and fuel use. Cumulatively, it has helped clients reduce carbon emissions by 43 million tons.
