Honoring Women In Wind

In its blog today, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) honored some of the many talented women that lead the US wind industry.

We thought you’d like to know who these leading women are and the roles they play in the wind industry.

Susan Reilly is President and CEO of Renewable Energy Systems Americas, one of the biggest developers of wind projects, with over 300 full-time staff and 6 GW of projects – about 10% of US wind farms. Susan serves on AWEA’s board.

Abby Arnold is Executive Director of the American Wind Wildlife Institute, which works to ensure the wind industry advances while protecting wildlife and their habitats.

Beth Soholt is Executive Director of Wind on the Wires, which works to overcome the barriers to bringing wind energy to market, such as transmission planning and creating equitable rules that govern the use of the electric grid. That’s resulted in over 12,000 MW of wind in the Midwest.

Nancy Rader is Executive Director of the California Wind Energy Association (CalWEA), where she played a key role in developing and advocating for the state’s Renewables Portfolio Standard policy, which has since been adopted in over 25 states.

Jan (Blittersdorf) Blomstrann is CEO of NRG Systems, which manufactures wind measurement systems for the global wind energy industry, and has been recognized for business excellence by business groups across the nation. She also serves on several boards, including AWEA and the American Wind Wildlife Institute.

Rachel Shimshak is Executive Director of the Renewable Northwest Project in Portland, OR. Under her leadership, the organization has supported more than 7 GW of renewable energy in the Northwest.

Karen Conover founded Global Energy Concepts, growing it to 100 employees before selling to DNV, where she still serves. She was one of the first women to serve on AWEA’s board and won the 2012 Britt Theismann Wind Energy Person of the Year award for her strong leadership representing the wind industry.

Lori Rugh is Senior Director of Marketing & Sales for AWEA. She’s been instrumental in working through challenges facing the industry and bringing it to the forefront of the news, changing perceptions of the industry from alternative to a mainstream energy source.
