A new biofuels hub in Portland, Oregon is bringing together three companies that will serve the local area with biofuels.
The hub will be verticallly integrated with manufacturing, a distribution terminal, and a cooking oil recycling facility, reports Sustainable Business Oregon.
Whole Energy Fuels Corporation, based in Bellingham, Washington is setting up a distribution terminal there, Oregon Oils, a cooking oil recycling operation, and Beaver Biodiesel is moving its manufacturing from Albany, Oregon to Portland.
Oregon Oils, in business since 1992, collects used cooking oil from about 1,200 Portland-area customers, mostly restaurants.
"This will be a vertically integrated biofuels facility," says Daniel Shafer, of Beaver Biodiesel. "It will allow us to reduce the total CO2 impact of producing and distributing biofuels."
"This project presents an exciting opportunity for the city of Portland and other regional fleets to access locally made biodiesel right in the heart of Northwest Portland," says Atul Deshmane, president of Whole Energy Fuels Corp.
Beaver will make 2.5 million gallons of biodiesel a year from cooking oil and other recycled oils.
