DOE Funds Train Next Generation of Efficiency Experts

The Department of Energy (DOE) is giving $30 million in grants to train our next generation of engineering students in industrial energy efficiency.

24 universities in 23 states will each receive $200,000 – $300,000 a year for up to 5 years.

Specifically, DOE says, the program will train promising undergrad and graduate-level engineering students to conduct energy assessments in a broad range of manufacturing facilities. 

Students will work with local small and medium-sized industrial and manufacturing facilities, helping them to reduce energy waste, save money, and become more economically competitive.

Each Industrial Assessment Center will train at least 10-15 students a year, conduct about 20 energy assessments annually, and perform extensive follow-on reporting, tracking, implementation, and management-improvement activities.
