New Chic: Urban Commmuter Cycling

Levi Strauss & Co is the first major clothing brand to design a line of jeans and jackets specifically for the needs of the urban commuter cyclist.

Levi’s is widely recognized for leading sustainability practices in the fashion industry – its new "Commuter by Levi’s" line is the first to endorse the cycling lifestyle and its low environmental impact.

Arriving in select Levi’s Stores this week, the 511 and Trucker Commuter products integrate numerous features for cyclists including reflectivity in the cuffs, water resistance, a reinforced crotch, the use of stretch materials, odor protection, extra utility pockets, longer sleeves and back coverage, and even a specially designed storage system for a U-lock.

The pants are built around the 511 Skinny Jean, Levi’s most popular skinny fit for men, and come in a cropped version that doesn’t risk tangling in the bike chain.  The Commuter jacket is a modified version of Levi’s iconic Trucker Jacket first introduced in 1962.

The Commuter line is sold at independent bike shops in major cities as well as select Levi’s stores, Urban Outfitters and online.

Levi’s is also partnering with Urban Outfitters to launch the "Get in the Saddle" bike shop tour. A mobile bike and tailoring shop will travel around the country to offer bike tune-ups and custom tailoring of the Commuter line clothing.

The tour kicks off in early August in New York City and ends in bike-oriented Portland, Oregon in late September with stops in other major cities along the way.

Levi’s other green lines include its global ‘Go Forth’ campaign, which encourages people to create positive change in the world.
