LEAF Electric Vehicle Having Start-Up, Delivery Problems

Nissan has confirmed that its first electric car, the LEAF, is having start-up problems, after having received complaints from US and Japanese customers. Customers say the car won’t re-start after being turned off.

And the company had to stop production for a month because of power shortages related to the Japanese disaster.

While Nissan sold out the pre-orders for the LEAF, since it entered production, only 471 have sold in the US and 3,484 in Japan, as of the end of March.

Nissan announced production resumed April 8 and that it had received deliveries from suppliers. The company’s goal before the earthquake/ tsunami was to completely fulfill backorders by May.

This week, Nissan revealed the racecar version of the Leaf, the Leaf Nismo RC, at the NY Auto Show, where the LEAF was named World Car of the Year.

Nissan has been giving me beaucoup lip service regarding the delivery of my leaf, ordered over a year ago. Now telling me they are waiting for my accessories before they can deliver the car which is sitting “in Port” in Long beach (I am in Los Angeles.
