Plumen, maker of the first "designer" CFL light bulb, will begin sales in the US at the end of April.
The first model–the Plumen 001–was designed by Hulger and Samuel Wilkinson. It has elegantly woven glass tubes, that are meant to be featured–rather than covered with a fixture globe or lamp shade.
The bulb, which is already available in Europe, has been included in the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It is also nominated for the 2011 Product Design of the Year (and overall Design of the Year) by the Design Museum, London.
The 11 watt bulb produces 680 lumens and is said to have a lifespan of about eight years. Check out photos at the link below.
