Staples Expands Sustainable Earth line of Office Products

Staples (Nasdaq: SPLS) has expanded its eco-friendly line of products offered through its Staples Advantage business-to-business division.

The Sustainable Earth line now includes janitorial paper products and kitchen items including cups, plates, and cutlery.

The majority of the products have been certified for recycled content or compostability by Green Seal or the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).

The new janitorial paper products are made from 100% recycled fiber, with a minimum of 40% post consumer content. The full line of paper products now includes facial tissues, toilet paper, and several styles of paper towels and napkins. The kitchen products include compostable cups and lids (made from corn-based materials) and compostable cutlery made from sugar cane. These add to plates, bowls and hot and cold cups already featured in the line.

The Sustainable Earth line of products also includes remanufactured toner cartridges, office products made from recycled material and cleaning supplies.

"Organizations are looking for simple ways to make their offices more sustainable," said Lisa Hamblet, vice president for the facility solutions and services business of Staples Advantage. "With our Sustainable Earth by Staples line, companies now have the ability to conveniently and cost-effectively purchase environmentally-preferable kitchen and paper products."
