After solar installations rose over 90% in the first 9 months of 2010, German installations (the largest market by far) dropped 48% in October compared to September, according to German energy regulator, the Bundesnetzagentur.
The solar industry anticipated the drop off after Germany’s cut in its feed-in tariffs took effect in October.
Market research firm iSuppli reports that solar installations are shifting to Italy, where installations doubled during the last quarter of 2010 compared to the previous quarter (975 MW).
While France, the Czech Republic, and Spain have cut solar subsidies, Italy still offers 15-18% on internal rates of return for solar projects. Installations in Italy could add up to 1 GW each quarter in 2011.
