'Fast-Tracked' Wind Projects Held Up Over Eagle Protection

The future of several large wind farms proposed for federal lands is in doubt, because of the threat they pose to golden eagles.

The Associated Press reported yesterday that the U.S. Bureau of Land Management suspended the issuing of permits last summer for wind projects on public lands in the West, because of a law that protects the eagles. 

As a result, four of seven ‘fast-tracked’ projects may not break ground before the end of the year, which would make them ineligible for Recovery Act funding.
