The push towards electric vehicles is causing the share prices of some mining companies to rise, according to a Reuters article about the lithium mining industry.
Lithium is the primary ingredient in the next wave of advanced batteries to be employed in electric vehicles. Lithium mining has been dominated by four major producers in the past, but demand is expected to surge over the next decade, creating opportunity for smaller exploration and mining companies.
As a result, shares in some Canadian-listed companies have climbed more than 50% in the last two months.
