U.S. Military Raises Concerns Over Wind Farms

The U.S. military says wind farms in certain locations pose an unacceptable risk to training operations and national security.

The trouble is that spinning turbines are indistinguishable from airplanes on some radar systems, and large wind farms can create blind spots for radar operators.

Deputy under secretary of defense Doroty Robyn recently tesitified on the issue before a House Armed Services Subcommittee. 

Gary Seifert, a researcher with the Idaho National Laboratory, called the competing energy and security issues a "train wreck."

Proposed wind farms in teh Mojave desert are currently the focus of disputer.
