SunPower to Build 10MW Solar Plant in Delaware

SunPower Corp. (Nasdaq: SPWRA, SPWRB) announced that it has been selected to design, build, operate, and maintain the 10-megawatts (MW) Dover SUN Park, in Dover, Delaware, for White Oak Solar Energy, L.P., a subsidiary of LS Power Group.

The solar park, which is expected to be operational next summer, will deliver power to the regional utility grid operated by the city of Dover.

SunPower will install its tracker systems at the 103-acre site. The Tracker follows the sun’s movement during the day, increasing sunlight capture by up to 25% over conventional fixed-tilt systems and significantly reducing land use requirements, SunPower says.

White Oak is selling the energy and environmental attributes from the Dover SUN Park through long-term agreements with the City of Dover, Delmarva Power and Light, Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation and the Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility.

Earlier this month, SunPower announced that it will use a grant from the state of California to research photovoltaic (PV) energy storage for large commercial applications. SunPower will partner with three energy storage companies, Ice Energy, Xtreme Power and ZBB Energy (NYSE Amex: ZBB).
