Grid Net Signs Smart Grid Deal with Landis+Gyr

Smart grid technology company Grid Net secured another major industry partner. Switzerland’s Landis+Gyr, a global leader in energy management and advanced metering technology, will now sell Grid Net’s software for end-to-end, IP-based smart grid operations.

Landis+Gyr will offer Grid Net’s PolicyNet SmartGrid NMS™ and SmartNOS™ software platforms, and PolicyNet SmartAgents™ as key software components of its open standards based Smart Grid Solution to Australian and New Zealand utility customers, with a worldwide distribution option.

The software will be embedded on Landis+Gyr smart meter devices.

GE (NYSE: GE) is already a reseller of Grid Net software. Together, GE and Landis+Gyr control 45% of the market for smart meters, according to Greentech Media. 

and Intel (Nasdaq: INTC), Motorola (NYSE: MOT) and Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR) are members of Grid Net’s partner program.

The company has also drawn venture investments from industry heavyweights Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) and Intel (Nasdaq: INTC).

The all-IP Grid Net platforms are designed to integrate substation automation, distribution automation, smart meters, demand response, and load management with electric vehicles, buildings and homes. The company’s software is compatible with Zigbee, homeplug, Ethernet, fiber and WiMax.

Grid Net is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and has offices in Sydney, Australia.
