European utility Enel (ENEL.MI) is preparing to sell a minority stake in its renewable energy development unit Enel Green Power (EGP).
It’s not clear yet whether the sale will take place through an initial public offering or a private placement.
Reuters published a brief breakdown of the company and its major competitors.
EGP operates more than 600 renewable energy power plants in 16 countries with a total capacity of 5,761 megawatts (MW). The company plans to nearly double that capacity by 2014 through an investment of about $6.45 billion.
The company’s main rivals include Spain’s Iberdrola Renovables SA (IBR.MC) and Acciona (ANA.MC), as well as France’s EDF Energies Nouvelles (EEN.PA).
