eMeter Establishes Its Smart Grid Presence in Asia

eMeter, a producer of smart grid management software, announced that it has been chosen for a pilot program in Taiwan.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), a Taiwanese research organization, has selected eMeter’s EnergyIP information platform and customer Web portal for use in its upcoming demonstration program.

Gary Bloom, CEO of eMeter, said the program is a big moment for eMeter, as the company looks to extend its business in Asia, and specifically into the Chinese market.

ITRI will implement its program for domestic industry and regulation development. Government funding for the AMI pilot project was secured, and plans to involve 300-500 customers. The pilot includes a basic functional test that may contribute to AMI regulation and standards in Taiwan. The communication architecture and system interfaces will also be evaluated.

eMeter’s EnergyIP delivers event-driven information and automation in real-time to integrate utility operations and manage the smart grid. eMeter’s Energy Engage is a customer Web portal that empowers utilities and consumers to work together to drive sustainable energy conservation and cost reduction.

eMeter has notable industry and strategic partnerships with Accenture (NYSE: ACN), IBM (NYSE: IBM), Logica (LOQ.DE), and Siemens (NYSE: SI).

The worldwide Smart Grid Operations Management software and services market is expected to grow by greater than 65% over the next five years, according to a report released earlier this week.
