Caithness Energy–one of the largest, private renewable energy developers in the U.S.–is offering residents in rural Oregon $5,000 to sign waivers forfeiting their right to complain about the noise produced by wind turbines.
The area is a hotbed for wind farm development. The state already has a noise ordinance for wind turbines, but it is not strictly enforced–especially if there are no local complaints.
Some landowners are happy to take the easy money, while others oppose the addition of more wind towers in the picturesque region.
