Sulfurcell GmbH, a manufacturer of copper indium selenide (CIS) thin-film solar modules, has concluded supply agreements with new customers in India and China in excess of 16 megawatts (MW).
In China, over 10 MW of Sulfurcell’s solar panels will be deployed in new construction and building integrated applications, the company said. In India, over 6 MW of the company’s modules will be used for commercial rooftop projects.
Sulfurcell did not give the name of its Chinese customer, but said the panels will be used in large-scale construction projects and building integration (BIPV) applications in mainland China
In India, Sulfurcell will provide over 6 MW of modules by 2012 to the Prime Group of New Delhi mainly for commercial rooftop projects. The Prime Group, which has subsidiaries in Europe and the Far East, produces and operates high-tech products and is also active in the renewable energy sector.
Sulfurcell was founded in 2001 as a spin-off from the Helmholtz Centre for Materials and Energy, formerly known as the Hahn-Meitner Institute. The UK’s Guardian newspaper just recently again listed the Berlin company among the “hottest 100 clean technology companies in Europe”.
In 2008, Sulfurcell received EUR 85 million in funding from international investors, including Intel Capital and the BEU fund supported by Vattenfall Europe and Gaz de France. The company opened a manufacturing facility in California earlier this year.
