Enphase Energy Inc., the market leader in solar microinverter systems, today introduced a home thermostat that allows owners to simultaneously manage their solar installations along with
their heating and cooling systems in a single Web-based platform.
The Environ™ Smart Thermostat integrates with the Enphase Microinverter System through a Zigbee
wireless connection, a standard protocol for smart energy devices. It is said to be the first solar-integrated smart energy device.
"This product introduction is a significant step toward a unified platform for businesses and homeowners to generate, monitor and control their own energy," said Paul Nahi, CEO of Enphase Energyi. "Converging these elements into a single platform has the potential to both unite and expand the markets for solar, energy efficiency and smart homes, broadly accelerating the shift to a clean energy economy."
Enphase Energy provides solar energy management systems for
residential and commercial markets. The company offers a system that
includes microinverters, communications and Web-based monitoring and
analysis. Microinverter systems are said to increase energy harvest,
improve system reliability and simplify design, installation and
management.
In June, Enphase completed a $63 million financing round. Enphase Energy was one of the fastest growing inverter companies in 2009 and has sold more than 300,000 microinverters since its launch in 2008.
Global inverter shipments reached 3.1 gigawatts (GW) in 1Q10–the largest first quarter total for the industry, and the second highest quarterly result on record, according to recent market figures. Nonetheless, component shortage and inverter production problems that began in 4Q09 worsened in 1Q10, and quarter-to-quarter supply fell. As a result, demand is expected to outstrip supply in the near-term.
