Ice Energy Teams with SAIC to Market Energy Storage Projects To U.S. Government

Ice Energy announced an agreement with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) that will extend the company’s Ice Bear distributed energy storage offering to U.S. Federal Government agencies and the military.

Leveraging SAIC’s market reach, the agreement with SAIC will enable Ice Energy to expand its sales and business development efforts for distributed thermal energy storage projects directly to more than 40 federal agencies and all branches of the U.S. military.

Ice Energy’s energy storage system works by leveraging the higher efficiencies associated with generating and transmitting power off-peak (typically at night) and using that energy to make ice, which is then used to cool buildings during the day, when energy demand for air conditioning is at its highest.

In January, the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) initiated a 53-megawatts (MW) project with Ice Energy.

Benefits of the Ice Bear system include reduced daytime energy consumption, lower energy costs and a smaller environmental footprint on Federal buildings and military bases.

President Barack Obama recently signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to reduce GHG emissions by 28%.

Ice Energy is headquartered in Windsor, Colorado, with offices in Orange
County and Sacramento, California.
