The electronics manufacturing services (EMS) industry will benefit from growth in the cleantech industry, according to a Reuters story.
The EMS industry currently assembles consumer products such as laptop computers and cell phones for global brands like Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) and Nokia (NYSE: NOK). But recently announced deals between Singapore EMS company Flextronics (Nasdaq:FLEX) and solar firms SunPower (Nasdaq: SPWRA) and Q-Cells (QCE.DE) indicate that solar’s biggest players are beggining to outsource production in an effort to trim costs.
One analyst told Reuters that solar panel business is starting a "new EMS boom" that could lead to a tripling of contract manufacturing in the sector this year.
