Plans Unveiled for 100MW Solar Plant in Jordan

An international consortium unveiled plans last week for a 100-megawatts (MW) photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Jordan.

Currently the largest PV power plant is a 60MW system in Olmedilla, Spain.

Amman-based Kawar Energy and Italian company Solar Ventures are leading the initiative which is expected to cost around $400 million and supply about 1.2% of the country’s electricity generation. 

Construction is expected to begin in 2011, creating 500 construction jobs and 40 permanent solar jobs.
