German crystalline photovoltaic solar firm Mage Solar GmbH announced plans to establish a North American headquarters and production facility in Dublin, Georgia.
The company said it will invest $30 million in the facility, which is expected to create 350 solar jobs within the next 5 years. In addition to the company’s headquarters and manufacturing, the facility will also host a solar academy for industry training.
Initial production capacity will be 40 megawatts (MW), with expansion plans for up to 800MW. Production is scheduled to begin around the end of this year.
Mage Solar said Dublin’s strategic location–about halfway between Atlanta’s international airport and the Port of Savannah–provides the solar company a logistic advantage. The primary focus of the North American subsidiary will be on the domestic market, long term however, Mage Solar is also considering serving the international market outside the US.
Georgia’s workforce training program Quick Start, as well as its overall business-oriented climate make it an attractive state for locating corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities. In addition, Georgia is also home to the Center of Excellence for Photovoltaics Research and Education at Georgia Tech in Atlanta–one of only two centers of its kind nationwide.
