Last week President Barack Obama said his administration plans to turn its attention to passing climate and energy legislation after finishing financial regulatory reform in the next few weeks.
Over the last month, he has made concessions to oil and nuclear interests, in an effort to gather conservative support for compromise legislation being crafted by Senators John Kerry (D-Mass), Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). That legislation is expected to be unveiled at the end of this week, or early next.
A recent Christian Science Monitor story looks at Obama’s "gambit" to combine environmental policies. It notes major environmental successes achieved by the administration so far, but states that climate change legislation is like the final exam at the end of a semester that’s worth 50% of the grade.
