First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR) has established a Silicon Valley research lab that aims to reach higher efficiencies with thin-film technology, according to a Reuters report.
The article, which cites unnamed sources, suggests the company is working on copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) technology. Currently, the company makes thin-film solar panels using cadmium telluride, which it says is capable of converting sunlight to electricity at up to 11% efficiency.
