Japanese Firms Collaborate on Standards for Electric Car Recharging

Toyoto (NYSE: TM), Nissan (NSANF.PK), Mitsubishi (MMTOF.PK), Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FUJHF.PK), and The Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc.(TKECF.PK), have formally established an association for standardizing charging of electric vehicles.

CHAdeMO Association also aims to increase quick-charger installations worldwide. The five companies will serve as executive members.

"CHAdeMO" is a trade name of quick charging method that the Association is proposing globally as an industry standard.

"CHAdeMO" is an abbreviation of "CHArge de MOve", equivalent to "charge
for moving", and is a pun for "O cha demo ikaga desuka" in Japanese,
meaning "Let’s have a tea while charging" in English.

Additionally, 158 business entities and government bodies including 20 foreign companies are expected to join the Association, such as automakers, electric utilities, charger manufacturers, charging service providers, and other supporting groups.

Reuters reports that PG&E Corp (NYSE: PCG), Enel SpA (ENEI.MI), Endesa (ELE.MC) and PSA Peugeot Citroen (PEUP.PA) are expected to join.
