Congressional auditors issued a report on Friday showing that the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star program is highly vulnerable to fraud.
The labeling program was created to provide consumers with a quick method of choosing energy efficient products–ranging from refrigerators to computers.
However, the Government Accountability Office created fake companies and products–some with rather outrageous claims–and each was granted Energy Star status with few or no questions.
