Exploration to discover new deposits of lithium has exploded, according to a Reuters report, as mining operations hope to cash in on the demand for lithium-ion batteries that will power electric vehicles in the decade ahead.
Countries like Australia, Finland, Canada, Serbia, and the United States are the sites of nine pipeline projects and about 60 early-stage explorations, lithium expert Keith Evans told Reuters.
There is also a lot of buzz concerning new projects in Bolivia–which reportedly has the largest deposits of lithium in the world–and Mexico.
However, established operations in Chile and Argentina have sufficient reserves to meet demand for "billions of years," Evans said.
