Arizona Public Service Issues Solar, Wind RFPs

Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) has announced two requests for proposals (RFP)–one for new sources of photovoltaic energy and the other for Arizona-based wind.

The RFP for photovoltaic seeks projects between 15 and 50 megawatts (MW). APS hopes to procure approximately 220,000 megawatt hours annually from this solicitation. Respondents are required to provide proposals for long-term power purchase agreements and/or "turn-key" (developer-built with APS purchasing the project when completed) agreements. RFP submissions are due April 7, 2010.

The solicitation for wind power seeks projects between 15 and 100 MW located entirely within Arizona. As with the solar RFP, respondents are required to provide proposals for long-term power purchase and/or "turn-key" agreements. RFP submissions are due April 14, 2010.

Interested parties are encouraged to participate in the photovoltaic RFP bidder’s conference on March 12, 2010. Additional information about the conference and the RFP is available online at the link below.

APS, Arizona’s largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state’s 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW)
