Alternative Energy: What's Taking So Long?

New technologies are on the way to relieve our dependence on fossil fuels, but it’s going to take a long time for them to capture a significant share of the global market for electricity, according to an in-depth Wall-Street Journal report.

Government policies, carbon pricing and higher oil prices can all speed the adoption of cleaner energy, but the sheer size of the market means it will take years of aggresive installation before these technologies make much of a dent in fossil fuel domination. 

The report looks at the current status and the hold-ups affecting a broad range of technologies, from algal biofuels and solar to carbon capture and solar.
