The Spanish multinational OPDE announced that it has acquired EUR 100 million in project financing for for two solar photovoltaic power plants.
Taking place in the last days of 2009, OPDE said the deal was the largest solar financing agreement for the year in Spain. It was signed with Banco Santander, La Caixa and BBVA for two solar photovoltaic projects in Tordesillas (Valladolid) and Valtierra (Navarra), which together have a planned capacity of 22 megawatts (MW). The capital financed amounts to €100 million.
ODPE said the signing is the "finishing touch" for 2009, a year in which the company financed, built and connected a total of 28.38 MW in Spain. This figure has put the company into the top post in the ranking of construction-developers of photovoltaic solar power in Spain in 2009 with a 20% market share in ground plants built in the country, a position held since 2008 with a then consolidated turnover of EUR 560 million.
The company said it expects to build another 20 MW in Spain in 2010.
In 2009, OPDE built PV plants using trackers made by its subsidiary Mecasolar, as well as modules made by Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL) and inverters made by SMA.
Apart from its projects in Spain, OPDE finished in the south of Italy (Puglia) the construction and connection of various solar photovoltaic plants with a capacity of 6 MW, located in the towns of Ginosa, Ruatella, Lucera and Foggia. These projects have been funded by UBI Leasing and Fineco.
OPDE comprises the companies OPDE, Mecasolar, Proinso and Rios. The first is specialized in the global promotion and construction of solar photovoltaic plants. Mecasolar focuses its activity on the design and manufacture of solar trackers and fixed structures. Proinso is dedicated to providing REC (REC.OL) and Trina solar modules, fixed structures and tracking, as well as SMA inverters, becoming the first international distributor of these global brands in the sector, with over 100 MW of modules and 140 MW of inverters supplied. RÍOS is the company responsible for Civil Works, as well as engineering and installation work and low, medium and high voltage work.
OPDE currently employs 300 people. The plants promoted and built directly by OPDE in the 2004-2009 period, have together a total capacity of 115 MW, producing an equivalent annual energy consumption of 75,466 households (225 GWh).
The OPDE Group has tracker factories in the U.S. (California), Greece and Italy, countries where it has it own companies.
