Bill Gates, Ted Turner Look to Renewable Energy

Two of the most famous American entrepreneurs made cleantech headlines today.

Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) founder Bill Gates told CNET that he has invested in Vinod Khosla’s green-technology fund, a move that gives him "access" to scientists in the field with whom he said he discusses the challenges of developing low-cost, low-emissions energy.

In the video interview (available at the link below) he says he expects the majority of cleantech companies to fail, but that many must be supported so that a few can succeed with breakthrough technology.

Gates also has invested in the algae-to-fuel company Sapphire Energy and in TerraPower, a nuclear power company that Gates said has a breakthrough design.

In a separate story, Gates wrote in a letter released Sunday that he worries funds pledged to climate change aid will take away from aid currently being given to global health issues. (Reuters coverage)
