A Mexican subsidiary of Germany’s SoWiTec international GmbH has signed a development agreement with Enel Latin America LLC to develop several wind power projects in Mexico with a total capacity of up to 1,000 megawatts (MW).
Enel Latin America LLC is a subsidiary of Enel Green Power– a business unit of Enel (ENEL.MI).
Through this agreement, Enel Green Power (www.enelgreenpower.com) will have exclusive access to wind power projects being developed by Sowitec de México Energías Renovables, as well as the right to acquire these projects once they are fully authorized. The projects are located in the states of Sonora, Coahuila, Aguascalientes, Tamaulipas and Veracruz with a preliminary capacity for each project ranking between 100 to 200 MW.
SoWiTec has been present in Mexico since 2007 and is developing a pipeline of more than 5,000 MW of wind projects all over the country.
SoWiTec and Enel have already signed similar agreements for 1,000 MW in Brazil and 850 MW in Chile. With these three agreements the total project volume to be built within the next few years amounts to some 1,500 wind turbines.
SoWiTec is one of the largest project developers in Latin America with a project pipeline of over 35,000 MW in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Peru, representing a total investment of approximately EUR 60 billion.
In 2009 SoWiTec entered the Russian market and is planning to develop a first project pipeline of 5,000 – 10,000 MW.
