Suniva, Inc., a U.S. manufacturer of monocrystalline silicon solar cells and modules, announced the completion of its collaborative project with Titan Energy Systems Ltd. to create India’s first large-scale project in Jamuria, West Bengal. Suniva’s cells power the 1-megawatt (MW) solar electric power plant which is expected to expand an additional 250kW early next year.
In August 2008, Suniva and Titan signed a $480 million long-term supply deal.
“Suniva is our key partner for delivering the high power and volumes needed to keep projects reliably moving forward,” said Sankar Chodagam, Managing Director of Titan Energy Systems Ltd.
Over the next five years, Titan plans to develop a series of
large-scale projects and installations in Andhra Pradesh, India in collaboration with US project developer Enfinity.
Suniva
said it fully supports and looks forward to continuing its collaboration with
the fast-growing Indian market.
The Indian government recently approved a National Solar Mission, which includes a target of deploying at least 20 gigawatts (GW) of solar projects by 2020, as part of its national strategy to provide power to millions of citizens and combat climate change.

Suniva’s technology is currently being integrated into a variety of installations throughout the United States, including a 550kW solar farm in North Carolina and a 10-MW development in Georgia.
Based in Norcross, GA, Suniva leverages exclusive licenses to critical patents and patent-pending intellectual property developed by founder and CTO, Dr. Ajeet Rohatgi, at the Georgia Institute of Technology’s University Center of Excellence for Photovoltaic Research, which is funded by the Department of Energy.
In addition to manufacturing and selling solar modules, Titan also undertakes design, construction, operation and maintenance of grid-connected and off-grid solar systems on a “turnkey” basis for end customers.
Titan currently operates a manufacturing capacity of 100 MW and is expanding its module production capicity with a goal of 500 MW.
