White House Launches GreenGov Challenge

The White House on Monday launched an effort to collect ideas from more than 1.8 million federal and military personnel for making U.S. government procedures more sustainable.

Through the GreenGov Challenge website, these federal employees can submit their own clean energy ideas and suggestions and vote on others. In coordination with National Energy Awareness Month, any Federal employee or military member can submit a clean energy idea to  from October 19th through October 31st.

The top ideas will be presented to the Steering Committee on Federal Sustainability in the beginning of November. The group is comprised of senior officials from each federal agency who are responsible for delivering sustainability plans.

Only Federal and military personnel can participate, but the ideas are open to viewing by the public at the website below.

Earlier this month, President Barack Obama signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to set goals within 90 days for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.
