Exiled Chinese automobile tycoon Yang Rong spoke with Reuters about his plans to make cleantech cars in the U.S. and China.
The former chairman of Brilliance China Automotive Holdings wants to raise about 60 billion yuan ($8.8 billion) to make hybrid engines in China. These would be 1.5 liter engines capable of achieving 50 mpg on natural gas, gasoline or electricity, Rong said.
At least one analyst expressed doubt that such an engine was ready for mass production.
Through a company called HK Motors Corporation, Yang reportedly alos is setting up manufacturing facilities in Michigan and Alabama for utility vehicles, trucks and sedans.
