Czech power group CEZ signed a contract with General Electric (NYSE: GE) for the continued supply of the wind turbines for a 600 megawatts (MW) wind farm in Romania.
The entire project, to be installed in Dobrogea, Romania, is estimated to cost US$1.6 billion, and will be the largest wind farm of its kind in Europe.
The second phase of the project (Cogealac phase) includes 252.5 MW, for which GE Energy will supply 101 wind turbines generators of 2.5 MW each.
GE is currently supplying the 139 of the same turbines for the first stage of the project (Fantanele phase). That phase is scheduled for completeion in the beginning of 2010. The second phase is expected to be operational in 2011.
The contract signed on September 4th includes the sale of wind turbine generators with installation, startup, commissioning and also maintenance services.
