Nissan Motor Co (7201.T) on Sunday unveiled its much-anticipated all-electric vehicle, called "Leaf."
The Japanese automaker will begin selling the small hatchback in the U.S., Japan and Europe in 2010 and plans to introduce two additional models shortly thereafter
The vehicle has a top speed of more than 76 mph and a range of at least 100 miles, Nissan said.
Nissan also announced recently that it is developing components for hybrid vehicles. To date, the company has mostly been focused on development of all-electric vehicles and charging networks with its French partner Renault SA (RNO.PA).

An affordable, normal-looking, 100% electric car? This is a dream come true. Electric cars are safe, clean, efficient. This is a really big step towards reducing greenhouse gases, lessening the impact of peak oil, and saving money in the process. American auto companies need to learn from Nissan on this one! I just finished reading “Two Cents Per Mile” by Nevres Cefo, which is the most informative book I’ve read on the topic, and I suggest it to anyone interested in electric cars. http://www.twocentspermile.com
