A privately-held solar company Thursday announced plans to build what would be the world’s largest photovoltaic solar plant, located on 400 acres in Cle Elum, Washington.
Teanaway Solar Reserve, LLC, said it wants to generate about 75 megawatts (MW) of solar power and is negotiating with several solar panel manufacturers.
The company is reviewing several sites in Cle Elum on which to build a plant for manufacturing the approximately 400,000 panels needed to complete the project.
The target date for completion is fall 2011 and the cost is expected to top $100 million.
If the company carries through with its plan, it will create hundreds of solar jobs in manufacturing, installation and maintenance.
According to a report in The Seattle Times, the project is lead by Howard Trott, who for two decades helped manage investments for Seattle telecom billionaire Craig McCaw. The report said McCaw is not an investor in the project.
Trott told the paper: "As a privately held company, we are able to move quickly and have the resources to get this done."
