Landis+Gyr, AEP Texas Sign Smart Meter Deal

Landis+Gyr, a company focused on energy management and next generation smart grid solutions for utilities, announced a five-year advanced metering contract with AEP Texas, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP).

Under terms of the agreement, Corpus Christi-based AEP Texas will deploy Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream™ advanced metering solution across the utility’s Texas service territory. The Gridstream network will provide two-way communication to 700,000 metering endpoints to enable more than two million Texas consumers and businesses to better manage their use of electricity.

The deployment includes a two-way network and features an advanced digital meter with load limiting and remote service capability, along with connectivity to home area network devices. This will allow AEP Texas to send energy consumption information and real-time pricing signals to consumers as well as provide automated load management options.

Including the contract with AEP, Landis+Gyr has now signed agreements to deploy approximately 4 million smart meters with Texas utilities. In the U.S., Landis+Gyr has recently announced major deals with Texas utility Oncor, Washington D.C.-based Pepco Holdings (NYSE: POM) and California utility Pacific Gas and Electric Company (NYSE: PCG).
