Big Bounce Expected for Solar, Next-Gen Biofuels

Analysts and executives are beginning to make predictions as to what economic recovery will look like in the alternative enegy industry.

The New York Times reports that industry insiders expect solar technologies and next generation biofuels to join mainstream energy markets through grid parity, while wind developers will continue to rely on government subsidies.

"Overall, renewable energy companies are starting to talk less of competition with oil and gas and more about an intensifying competition between alternative-energy technologies," the NY Times report states.

While windpower will likely remain the top growth sector in coming years, in 2008 investment in the more mature technology grew by only 1%, compared to 49% growth in solar investment.
