Community colleges across the country are reporting an upswell of unemployed workers enrolling in green job training courses for solar installation, wind turbine repair and other "green-collar" skills.
Training programs are receiving stimulus funding and expectations are high that the renewable energy industry will soon provide thousands of jobs across the country.
But currently the industry is cutting positions alongside the rest of the economy.
"Even in these areas with great potential, the number of actual positions is way down from where they could be," said Barry Sedlick, who chairs the California Green Collar Jobs Council.
