Residential Wind Turbine Factory Opens in Michigan

Mariah Power, a company that makes vertical axis residential wind turbines, announced the opening of its first high-volume manufacturing site in Manistee, Michigan.

The facility, opened
in partnership with material handling specialists MasTech Manufacturing, will produce the Windspire® vertical axis wind turbine.

Manufacturing will take place in a retrofitted auto parts
automation manufacturing facility and will employ former auto industry workers who have prior
experience working with steel, building auto assembly lines and auto robotics.

The manufacturing site begins operations with 30 new employees and will produce 100
Windspire wind turbines per month with the number potentially growing to 1,000 Windspires a month.

The Windspire, the first product from Mariah Power, is a small-scale vertical axis wind turbine
designed to power homes or businesses. Standing just 30 feet tall, Windspire features a plug ‘n
produce™ design and connects directly to the power supply of the building, offsetting electricity use
and reducing energy costs. Windspire produces about 2000 kWh of electricity annually in 12mph
average winds, enough to power about 25% of the average U.S. home.

To mark the plant opening, a Windspire will be installed at  Governor Jennifer Granholm’s residence in Lansing, Michigan.
