Fluor, Airtricity Form Seagreen Wind Energy

Fluor Limited, the UK operating arm of Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR), announced today that it has formed Seagreen Wind Energy Limited with Airtricity, the renewable energy division of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE.L).

Seagreen Wind Energy has bid for the exclusive rights to develop wind farms under The Crown Estate’s Round 3 Offshore Wind Farm Development Programme.

Fluor and Airtricity developed the 500 megawatt (MW) Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm located off the coast of Suffolk, which is currently the world’s largest offshore wind farm under construction. It is scheduled for completion in 2011. Airtricity and Fluor have also received an exclusive development agreement from The Crown Estate for the Bell Rock Offshore Wind Farm located within Scottish Territorial Waters.

Fluor’s senior vice president and head of its Infrastructure business line, Patrick Flaherty, said, “Round 3 of the UK offshore wind farm development programme represents a significant undertaking the scale of which is unprecedented in the European wind power market. The Airtricity-Fluor consortium has demonstrated through the Round 2 Greater Gabbard project that it has the development skill, technical expertise and managerial and financial capacity to deliver on all obligations to The Crown Estate.”

Peter Raftery, general manager of UK Offshore Development for Airtricity, said, “Fluor and Airtricity have a long-standing successful relationship and a common goal for the outcome of Round 3. Our consortium is perfectly balanced with complementary skills to address all aspects of the delivery of offshore wind farms from site appraisal through development, construction and maintenance.”

Airtricity is a leading renewable energy company developing and operating wind farms across Europe. Its parent company Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), is one of the largest energy companies in the UK.

Fluor’s UK operations were established in 1957 and today the company serves a wide range of industries including offshore oil and gas, power generation, infrastructure, transportation and telecommunications.
